Wall Street Journal Asks: Breakfast Nook Vs. Outdoor Living Living Space? - November 8, 2011

The Wall Street Journal recently ran an article entitled "Blueprint for a New American Home: Expanding the Spaces a Family Really Uses; More Practical Doesn't Have to Mean Smaller" and brings up how outdoor living rooms are still hot on the trend list for homeowners and contractors.

The shift, says the WSJ, is that builders and homeowners are "shifting away from the aspirational, and more towards the practical." Below is the WSL's Lunch Break video highlighting "What's In, and What's Out?" in modern home design.

The main points made in the article are that people want to invest in spaces that their families' use more often, like a dining area, work area and an outdoor living space. Homeowners are investing by expanding these living areas, making them more comfortable, less formal and more functional.
