Fire Pits Can Be Dangerous if You Don't Follow Safety Tips - May 4, 2011Hi all, I just came across an article from last week about a 2 year old Minnesota boy who fell into a smoldering fire pit, badly burning his elbow and hand. My first thoughts were, "Where were the parents?" Although fire pits can be a great way to enhance your outdoor entertainment experience, they can also pose a danger if you don't follow fire pit safety tips. Fire pits that smolder can still cause burns up to 24 hours, so make sure that fire is out, monitored and if there are children around, PLEASE pay attention! The Hennepin County Medical Center stated that in the past month alone, they have treated several children under five who who burned either by fire pits or campfires. Since 2005, they have treated 150 patients burned by fire pits or campfires, nearly one third of them children. We posted a blog a few weeks before this article was published highlighting some Fire Pit Safety Tips. Please check it out and have a safe and entertaining summer with your fire pit.
