Enough with Wood Burning Fire Pits - August 29, 2011 I came across another article expounding wood fire pit burning due to the noxious smoke that affects breathing, asthma and the general annoyance and discomfort that wafts into neighboring homes through windows, doors and cracks. While I agree that everyone has the right to breathe clean air, I also believe people have the right to enjoy their backyards any way they choose as long as it doesn't affect those around them. This article was an extremely clever and entertaining piece written by a local Calgary woman for the newspaper and is a funny read. But it still amazes me that people don't understand a very simple solution to the problem: natural gas or propane burning systems. These burning systems burn clean fuel and do not emit the harmful smoke that wood burning fire pits do. They are cleaner, safer for the environment, there are no ash nor embers flying around posing a fire danger, no messy clean up and you can turn them on and off with the flip of a switch. Seems pretty simple to me.
